The historic centre of the city, one of Batumi's thirteen districts. The buildings date from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries — neoclassicism, eclecticism, art nouveau and oriental motifs; the buildings of the former London and Bellevue hotels survive. Since 2010 the townhouses here have been restored while new high-rises go up in other parts of the city.
